Support Montessori in Peru!

Posted March 14, 2013

Mis Manos Montessori, located in Huanchaco Peru, South America is reaching out to the Oregon Montessori community in hopes of attaining some much needed assistance.  Huanchaco is a fishing village dating back to 200 B.C. starting with the Moche culture.  Fishing is still a main income source for many families here, yet provides only enough for  very basic daily needs.  We started Mis Manos Montessori two years ago to give the children in this village an opportunity at a decent education. We currently have 15 students, some who pay a small fee when possible, and most attending for free. Without us, some of these children would probably not be in school.  The biggest hurdle we have come up against is accumulating Montessori materials. We have had local woods craftsman make as many as they could, but we have fallen short in many areas.  We are asking if some of you have any used/damaged materials that you could part with and donate.  I have attached a list of the items we are currently in need of.  If you have something that is not on the list, I’m sure we could use it also. Please note that we have a person in Oregon that has volunteered to send any donated items to Peru.  Thank you in Advance, Mis Manos Montessori!

Read more about Mis Manos Montessori here, and contact Dave for info on how to donate:  dkolle@elease.com
