A Beautiful Day Montessori is now enrolling for its much-anticipated reopening for Fall of 2013!
A Beautiful Day Montessori Preschool is an in-home AMI Children’s House nestled in a quiet neighborhood in Northeast Portland. Our beautiful learning environment includes a comfortable interior offering plentiful natural light with a comprehensive set of Montessori materials, as well as a large, secure green space for gardening and free play. In the familiar home environment with a low student to teacher ratio, children enjoy a gentle introduction to the greater social and academic world.

Camp Vida 2013! Portland Montessori School Summer Camp
Camp VIDA! 2013 Registration is available:
Everybody loves summer, kids and adults alike. Part of that summer fun is going to camp. Parents rely on summer camps to help keep their kids safe and happy throughout the summer months. For kids, it’s all about having fun with friends and exploring things they don’t get to explore during the school year—like learning new soccer skills, putting on an original play, immersing themselves in art, singing in a choir and making music with all kinds of instruments!
Camp Vida offers a variety of themed weeklong summer camps for children aged 3 – 6 and have not yet entered first grade. Our elementary camp options for campers 1st – 5th grade include soccer, fine art or choir camp.
Our campers are often students from our school, but we also welcome children from other schools. We especially love it when former students of our school return for camp. To accommodate a variety of scheduling needs, we offer full day camps, half day camps (for your younger campers) and before and after camp bridge care.
Go to www.portlandmontessori.org and look under Programs for Camp Vida for children 3-6 and look for Elementary Camp 2013 for options for children 1st– 5th grade! Registration is easy!

We would like to share with the community information regarding a memorial service for Mother Francine Cardew, FSE.
The Memorial at the Franciscan Montessori Earth School for Mother Francine Cardew, FSE, will be on:
pdxMC Summer Elementary Unschool!
Join pdxMC Montessori elementary guide, Joy Nauman for an adventuresome, fun time at pdxMC Summer Elementary Unschool! This summer program will be from June 16th – August 30th, 8:30 – 3:15 with extended care available before and after the program. They are forming a great group of 8 to 15 children entering first grade through fourth.

Here’s a sampling of their daily schedule:
Schedule:
8:30 – 9:00 Drop off
9:00 – 10:00 Play outside, craft, plan for day/journaling
10:00 – 11:00 Retire to ‘Living Room’ for snack, quiet activities, journals, read aloud
11-2:00 Outdoor time, incorporating some of the following activities, depending on the day
- bus to library lunch in park
- bus/car ride to community center to swim
- walk to Bridlemile school for lunch and play in park
- field trip to New Seasons
- bus to Wilson pool for swimming
- work on creek restoration
- work on outdoor environment
- other projects
2:00-3:15 Down time in ‘Living Room’ or outside, snack, journaling, dismissal
Montessori Applied to Children at Risk (MACAR) Training
Montessori Institute of the Pacific Northwest, along with Woodinville Montessori School, are pleased to present the MACAR training led by Joyce Pickering and the Shelton School Faculty.
August 5 – 10, 2013
The goal of this workshop is to understand the specific needs of children at risk for learning differences and provide specific strategies to the registrant for matching the Montessori educational method to those needs.

Early Learning Council – A Call for Photos
Dear early learning supporter:
We want you to have full access to state early learning information, so we are in the process of building a simple, easy-to-navigate website for quick reference and community discussion. As part of serving your info needs, we also want it to look nice and include visuals that capture early learning activities around the state.
We’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to submit photos to be featured on our site. We will accept any and all, and highlight your various submissions on the site throughout the year. Photos of child artwork or any other creative interpretation are also encouraged.
All we ask is that they:
1) Represent your interpretation of early learning (ages 0-6) in the State of Oregon;
2) Represent the many great things happening for children (ages 0-6) in our state;
3) Be clear, well-lit, and able to be digitally stretched, condensed, or cropped;
4) And have the proper disclosure from parents or guardians to use the photo if featuring specific children.
By submitting, you acknowledge that the photo will be used for Early Learning Council website purposes and could potentially be used in presentations and other materials.
