June 17th is the next meeting of OMA’s Infant/Toddler Summit for teachers and program administrators.

Notes from the group’s April 2014 Meeting:
In April 2014 a new Toddler Summit group convened at The Portland Montessori
Collaborative to come together in friendship to meet a discuss ideas and issues, triumphs and tribulations in the Infant and Toddler Environments. Teachers came from infant and toddler classes all around portland and even travelled up from Eugene. Five schools were
The topics at hand ranged from the age separations between infant and toddler, and the differing standards/expectations from CCD for each school. We talked about the importance of snack as a part of the work cycle; honoring it as a part of the child’s self care and socialization needs, and the varying ways and times it can be provided. Nap time difficulties and sensory processing issues and strategies were also discussed. The idea of weight blankets for a calming sensory processing space was loved, and a craft night will be held to construct them.
Most importantly, we established and re-established connections between individual communities, built comaradare, and enjoyed delicious food prepared by all!
